Baby Steps - by Nancy Brockman
Joy Truscott captures images of nature and of the human spirit through watercolor art. Her painting began when she was a young child in South Africa. Joy's mother tells this story of Joy as a young girl: We had just re-furbished Joy's and Lyndy's bedroom -- freshly painted walls, new beds. I walked into the room, that afternoon after work, and there was Joy; standing on her bed. As I entered, she turned to me, with a happy smile on her lovely little face, and said "I've done these pictures for our walls." Now she has other lovely paintings hanging on walls in beautiful places throughout the world. Originals and limited edition, signed prints of Joy's work are available. " My Art - The Journey Home"
by Nancy Brockman Joy Truscott's first United States show (June of 2005) was held in a courtyard of a gorgeous historic hotel in Durango, Colorado. The show marked both a beginning and an end for Joy as she and Bobby return to South Africa to live their life in the country in which they began. It is bitter sweet for those who have been fortunate enough to call the Truscott's friends. But it is also a new beginning for Joy's art and life, and as Joy said to me .... It is only when we learn the depth of farewells that we appreciate the warmth of togetherness. |
Joy and Bobby's splendid journey in the United States is almost over, and our country is a better place for having them as guests for nearly six years. Their presence will always be felt by those who know them, there will be visits to South Africa from some, and there will always be Joy's Art as a reminder to Joy and to all of us that the Truscott's United States adventure did take place. Their journey home is just the beginning of many wonderful adventures to come. |
